Silver carved hat. This hat comes from the South China province of Guizhou. There are 3 main kinds of hats in Mao history; this hat is the "Lei Shan" style. It was used by a lady of the Mao minority from the time of the Ming Dynasty until today. It said that Mao people believe silver can drive off evil things, and they like to use silver as a decoration to show cleaness and purity. In Mao culture, the bigger and heavier the hat, the more beautiful the lady.
